Enterprising Cumbria Joins Cumbria Combined Authority to Support the County's Future Growth

1 May 2026

Friday 1st May marked an important step forward for Cumbria’s economic future.

We’re proud to formally move into Cumbria Combined Authority, placing Enterprising Cumbria at the heart of a new era of cohesive leadership for the county. This move will strengthen the way we support businesses, skills, careers, enterprise and the transition to net zero, ensuring these priorities work together to benefit people, places and communities across Cumbria.

This transition is about shaping a stronger, fairer and more resilient local economy. It creates new opportunities to better align skills, opportunity and sustainability, helping people access good jobs, supporting thriving town centres and rural communities, and laying the foundations for long‑term prosperity. With a Mayor coming into post next year, this move ensures economic growth and inclusion are embedded within Cumbria’s future governance and decision‑making from the outset.

As part of the Combined Authority, we will continue to champion inclusive growth, productivity and resilience, helping Cumbria respond to change, attract opportunity and build a greener future that works for everyone.

Our commitment remains the same; locally rooted support that reflects Cumbria’s distinct places, strengths and ambitions, and contributes to a stronger economy for current and future generations.

We look forward to working closely with colleagues, partners and communities as we begin this important next chapter together.
