Net Zero / Decarbonisation
Delivering Net Zero through promoting Clean Energy Generation and the Decarbonisation of Business and Industry, is a key strategic priority of Enterprising Cumbria. We support and facilitate initiatives across domestic, transportation and public sector decarbonisation.
The Enterprising Cumbria Net Zero team are funded by the North West Net Zero Hub.
The hub is one of five covering England, funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. The North West Net Zero Hub is a regional programme to promote investment in local energy and decarbonisation projects. It works with public sector organisations to improve the business case for their energy schemes.
The North West Net Zero Hub also supports communities to take action and participate in the climate agenda. It can help direct local businesses to available funding for clean energy solutions.
This arrangement allows us to contribute to, and to draw on the experience of net zero expertise and experience throughout the North West region and from hubs across England.
This support allows us to move seamlessly between industry, business, the public sector and the community in order to help Cumbria decarbonise and realise it’s potential.
How do we do this? Past activities include:
- Promoting green finance/grant opportunities
- Facilitating and funding carbon audits – then sharing the learning!
- Identifying synergies between businesses and making connections (Circularity)
- Looking to grow the Cumbrian economy – supporting green ‘Start Ups’ and opportunities for existing business to grow or reduce energy costs.
- Promoting and highlighting opportunities and challenges to a wider audience
- Horizon-scan new technologies and increase awareness
- React to requests for facilitating independent expertise
- Understand how national issues can impact on local activities – for example, electricity grid constraints
- Work to implement national strategies (heat networks, electrification of heat for example)
- Sharing best practices from within the county or further afield
- Arranging workshops on specific issues (energy storage, solar, retrofit advice)
- Assisting with grant applications
