New Land-Based Skills Bootcamp Proposed for Cumbria - Public Feedback Sought

8 August 2025

The Land and Nature Skills Service is calling on Cumbrian residents and employers to help shape a proposed new land-based skills bootcamp, aimed at boosting local employment and training opportunities.

The bootcamp would offer flexible, government-backed training as part of the Lifetime Skills Guarantee, with a focus on skills in the land and nature sectors.

The team is currently seeking feedback on potential skills areas, likely demand, and preferred delivery locations via a short online questionnaire.

The proposed training would be:

  • 16 weeks long, with 60 guided hours of learning
  • Free to all adult learners (aged 19+), including those who are self-employed, unemployed or returning to work
  • Heavily subsidised for employers, with up to 90% of training costs covered for businesses with fewer than 250 employees

The bootcamp is designed to support adults across Cumbria who are looking to retrain, upskill or take the next step in their careers. Employers are also encouraged to take part in the survey, especially those interested in upskilling staff in land-based industries.
