From street food to subscription success, how Cumbria Accelerator helped turn a local food van into a national delivery service.

From food trailer to freezer

When husband-and-wife team Sachin and Shubha launched Dosa Chaska in Cumbria, their goal was simple: to share their passion for authentic, vegetarian South Indian food.

What began as a food trailer serving healthy, home-cooked dishes quickly became a favourite at local events and markets, attracting loyal customers and long queues.

But with popularity came a new challenge. Customers loved the food and the story behind it - but kept asking the same question: “How can we eat your food when the trailer isn’t here?”

That question inspired a bold new idea, one that would take Dosa Chaska from street food to subscription service.

Turning demand into innovation

Working with Cumbria Accelerator’s Innovation Support Programme, Sachin and Shubha partnered with advisor Colin Bell to explore how they could meet customer demand in a scalable way.

Together, they followed the Double Diamond design process, taking their concept from insight to launch.

  • Discover: Customer conversations revealed a clear need for regular access to healthy, hassle-free Indian food at home.
  • Define: They focused on health-conscious professionals, families and outdoor enthusiasts looking for convenient, nutritious options.
  • Develop: After testing several concepts, they landed on a solution that worked: handmade frozen curries that could be delivered nationwide.
  • Deliver: In June, the Dosa Chaska Subscription Service officially launched, offering wholesome frozen curries through an online subscription model.

Food that feeds body and soul

“We believe food should nourish your body and your soul,” says Shubha. “We’ve created recipes that are inspired by our heritage and designed for busy lives, so people don’t have to choose between health, taste or time.”

Dosa Chaska’s approach isn’t about chasing fast-food trends. It’s rooted in community, sustainability and wellbeing: values reflected in their eco-friendly packaging, locally inspired ingredients and commitment to bringing people together through good food.

Local roots, national reach

With guidance from Cumbria Accelerator, Sachin and Shubha turned a simple question into a thriving new revenue stream. From market testing and customer profiling to product development and launch strategy, the programme supported them every step of the way.
